The Story
One of the most important movie scores of all time, Akira Ifukube's Godzilla Soundtrack, ominous and dark, complemented the apocalyptic on-screen monster action of the 1954 classic. In addition to the outstanding strings and/or brass arrangements, Ifukube is also responsible for Godzilla's formidable roar (resin-coated leather glove rubbed up and down a contrabass) & thunderous footsteps (kettle drums beat w/ a knotted rope), and the Japanese composer, who worked on nearly 300 film scores, certainly set a high standard for many sci-fi flicks to come. The music is instrumental in painting a grim mood that runs along the length of the classic kaiju, check out "Prayer For Peace," "Godzilla Approaches (Sound Effects)," "Godzilla Main Title," and "Stormy Ootojima Island."
