Starchild & The New Romantic: Language (Colored Vinyl) Vinyl LP

Full-length debut from Bryndon Cook aka Starchild who's worked with Blood Orange and Solange... His 2016 EP on Ghostly, Crucial, was an introduction to Cook's elevated sonic world, and Language is an extension of that earnest, space. A Maryland native and "a student of Black music's rich lineage and its intersection with pop," the artist takes a very refined & bold approach to funk, electro, and R&B. The resulting retro-futuristic songs, which challenge notions like "old and new, black and white, religiosity and sexuality," are eloquent and expressive, an embodiment of his his strengths and sensitivities. He's mentioned that he appreciates "music that lent a helping hand," and Language is certainly that, check out "Hanging On," "Can I Come Over?," "Only If U Knew," and "Mood."
